National Behavioral Health ConferenceIndian Health Service
As a former tribal chief, Harold Tarbell has had a long involvement in the provision of federal health services in tribal communities. Most recently he has served as the moderator for the National Behavioral Health Conference of the Indian Health Service (U.S.) for multiple years (2007-2010, and 2012 scheduled). The conference gathers federal and local government representatives, health providers and clinicians, and recognized health experts to address the intersection of individual behavior and choices, community factors, and health conditions.
Along with moderating the 5-day conference, Harold Tarbell Facilitation also supports the planning process for the conference. This involves working with a diverse group of stakeholders, including agency representatives, health administrators, and clinicians from tribal, government, and urban health programs, to design an agenda and programming representative of the current needs, programs, and promising practices in behavioral health across Indian Country in the U.S.
In Canada, Harold Tarbell Facilitation has been actively involved in health-related matters including:
Facilitating strategic planning for the Assembly of First Nations Chiefs Committee on Health, the National Aboriginal Health Organization, the National Collaborating Centre for Aboriginal Health, and the Mohawk Council of Akwesasne's Health Department
Leading the facilitation team involved in the 2004 Sectoral Round Table on Health
Supporting work to implement the Tripartite First Nations Health Plan (e.g. Gathering Wisdom, Human Resource Management Learning Session, Health Benefits Learning Session, Health Partnership Accord
Facilitating international cooperation between Health Canada and others including the Indian Health Services and Mexico
